Non-urgent advice: Patient Notice

Please allow 10 working days for test results to come back (Smear tests usually take about 3-4 weeks).

Please telephone 0121 557 3422 after 10:30am and 5:30pm to obtain details of your test results (e.g. urine, x-ray), or visit the Practice.

For blood test results, please telephone between 11:30am and 12:30pm and evenings, between 5:30pm and 6:00pm.

To ensure confidentiality and security, test results will only be given to the patient direct and not to relatives or friends, unless alternative arrangements have been agreed in writing.

We will, of course, make every effort to contact you should your returned result need urgent action. However, it is your responsibility in all cases to find out the result of your test.

The doctors check the results before our Reception Staff are able to give any information to you. Our Reception Staff will only be able to state that the result is normal or that you will have to see the doctor. Please do not expect our Reception Staff to relay any other information regarding the test results.

If the doctor needs to speak to your personally, our Reception Staff will suggest the best possible time to ring, so as to avoid interruptions during the surgeries, which is upsetting for both the doctors and our patients.

All requests for blood tests must be made through one of the doctors or nurse.

You can also attend Neptune Health Park for blood tests and X-ray’s there opening times are:

  • Blood tests: Monday to Friday 8.00am to 3.00pm
  • X-rays: Monday to Friday 8.30am to 4.00pm

General Information about Test Results

When you attend a test of any kind, you will be told how long you should expect to wait for the results.  This is a guideline, and we ask that you wait this time before checking for your results.

Please note that we have a strict policy regarding confidentiality and data protection. We will only give test results to the person they relate to unless that person has given prior permission for their release or if they’re not capable of understanding them.

Please note that the results of tests carried out during hospital visits are not normally sent to the practice.

Why have I been asked to have a repeat test?

If a doctor asks you to have a repeat test, it is usually because:

  • The result was borderline or unclear, and the doctor wants another sample to monitor the situation or to re-check the results.
  • The result is abnormal, and the doctor cannot interpret the result without further tests and has asked you to come in for more tests.

Please do not worry if the doctor has asked you for a repeat test.  The doctor will speak to you or request to see you directly if they need to discuss the results.
